Intersections
for orchestra and oboe solo
(1988)

Main idea of the piece is drawn from coexistence of two cultural traditions: spiritual revealed in melos of Znamenny chant of the Orthodox church, and secular conveyed with dodecaphony and sonoristic technique. Two different thematic materials become the base for double variations, sometimes without definite bars between them. According to this, oboe solo is set off against the orchestra with the main role of percussion, while the strings and brass are not used at all in the piece..
